“I visited Kester during a fairly low point of my life. I was in constant (excruciating) pain following a post-natal flare up of rheumatoid arthritis. I could barely hold my baby. My rheumatologist had recommended a course of some pretty heavy toxic drugs and told me that if I didn’t take these I would be in a wheelchair within 5 years. Within 3 weeks of seeing Kester my symptoms had improved dramatically and I was able to get a full night’s sleep. It has been one year since I’ve been to Mudita and I am in COMPLETE REMISSION from my RA and have even started jogging again. Thank you Mudita!!”

What conditions can you help me with?

Kester can help you with digestive problems, weight issues, stress and fatigue, hormonal imbalances, menopause symptoms, joint and back pain and respiratory problems - from minor issues to more advanced pathologies. He ran a health clinic in SA for over 12 years before moving to Northern NSW in 2009 and has helped hundreds of patients with these common problems.

Why choose Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the oldest and most comprehensive medical systems in the world. It is based on the unchanging laws of nature and has evolved over time to become a practical, workable science in our modern western world. In Ayurveda every person is viewed as a unique individual and specific treatments are provided according to their constitution and current state of health. Ayurveda offers simple, straight forward solutions to problems that appear complex and difficult to manage.

What does an Ayurvedic Consultation involve?

Your initial consultation with Kester will go for approximately 60-75 minutes. Kester will begin with a pulse reading. The pulse diagnosis is very important and will give Kester a good picture of your current state of health.  He will carry out a brief tongue and eye examination and may also look at your fingernails and hands. Following this, he will take a detailed case history, asking questions about your current issues, problems in the past, family history as well as details about your diet and lifestyle. This will help him to understand the context you’re coming from so he can recommend changes that are achievable and will fit into your life without too much disruption. At the end of the consultation, Kester will give you some dietary and lifestyle advice specific for your state of imbalance.  Kester will then work with you to decide how often you need to come back for follow-up appointments or therapeutic treatments and for how long - to ensure you feel supported and guided in your return to good health.

Will Kester explain why he’s suggesting certain things?

Yes. If you are the type of person who likes to know why you are being asked to ‘do’ or ‘take’ something, don’t worry! Kester’s speciality is education - helping you to precisely understand what is going on and what you have to do to fix it. You will walk out of your consultation feeling clear, reassured and inspired - knowing what is going on, why and how it can be fixed (or at least managed or improved).

Can I eat and drink before my Initial Consultation?

Yes, but... it is best to have your Initial Consultation with Kester in the morning as this will help to give a more accurate pulse reading. Please, only have liquids for about 4 hours before seeing him or if necessary a light breakfast - such as stewed fruit. Avoid stimulants like tea and coffee until after the consultation.

Do I need to bring anything to my Initial Consultation?

It is good to come to your consultation slightly prepared.  Write down any specific questions you have for Kester as you’ll be sure to forget them otherwise... and you may also want to write down what your health objectives are so you can share your goals and expectations with him.  It is also super helpful if you keep a food diary for 2-3 days before your appointment so Kester has a good (and accurate)  understanding of what you’re currently eating. In addition, we request that you bring the following items, where applicable:

- Medical reports

- X-rays

- A list of medications you are currently taking (prescribed drugs or supplements).

Will I be prescribed herbs or supplements?

Kester will not prescribe vitamin or mineral supplements but he may prescribe Ayurvedic Herbal Formulas for you. Kester only uses herbs and herbal formulations that are organic where possible and have been sourced from a pure, natural environment. Many have been standardised in Europe before coming to Australia. This means the active constituents within the herbs have been measured and their potency, safety and efficacy scientifically verified. Very few preparations coming out of India undergo this strict standardisation. For other herb-related questions, go to the Herbal Medicines FAQ page.

Will Ayurveda just suppress my symptoms or will it work at the root cause of my problems/disease?

Allopathic medicine (or Western Medicine) works by suppressing the symptoms of a disease. Ayurvedic Medicine, in contrast, acts directly at the root of the disease process - detoxifying the body in a gentle, non-invasive way, strengthening metabolism and rebalancing disease causing conditions. This is why Ayurveda and Western Medicine can actually work together beautifully.  As you can imagine, this deeper, more subtle level of treatment can take a little longer... so you need to develop a slightly longer term view.

Think about how many years it has taken for the exact conditions to come about in your body for your imbalances or diseases to take hold.  Naturally, it is going to take some time and sustained effort to tip the balance back in the right direction. The good news is that it will work and, based on Vaidya Dr Smita Naram’s* extensive research, we can give you an indication at the start of your treatment of how long it may take.

* Kester is training with Dr Naram and prescribes her Ayushakti Herbal Medicines.

Will I have to make radical changes to my diet and lifestyle?

Ayurveda generally doesn’t recommend radical change as we are more interested in long-term sustainability. Change is generally more sustainable if it is made gradually, in a way that suits your lifestyle. However, your recommendations will of course depend on the nature and severity of your conditions.

Will I have to give up all of my vices?

It can be very difficult to give up our vices cold turkey. Vices need to be treated with care and sensitivity.  So no, we won’t ask you to give up your vices... but we will introduce other habits that will, over time, have a subtle effect on your mind and will get you to a point where you don’t want the vices in your life any more anyway.... or at the very least, only want them in moderation.

I’m already working with another Doctor/Alternative Health Practitioner - will Ayurveda compliment this?

Ayurveda can definitely compliment and support more conventional treatments, as well as other alternative treatments.  Just make sure you let Kester know what you are already doing and/or taking to ensure there aren’t any overlaps or conflicts in your advice and medicines.  It is also important to let your other Practitioner know about what you are doing with Kester.  Kester often works side by side with clients’ doctors, particularly in the case of more serious pathologies.

Will I enjoy the recommendations?

This is the good news! One of the best things about Ayurveda is the dietary and lifestyle recommendations are practical and delicious, the herbs are usually pretty yummy (or in tablet form so easy to take) and the treatments are absolutely heavenly!  This is definitely a path that embraces warmth, kindness, sweetness and joy.  You’re going to love it!.

How many Follow-up appointments will I need?

Again, this will depend upon the severity of your imbalance but also on how much support and guidance you need. Usually Kester recommends Follow-up at least once a month for 3-6 months.

Can I claim with my Private Health Fund?

Yes, all consultations with Kester are claimable with private health. We will invoice you, you show this invoice to your health fund and they will reimburse the allocated amount.

I am from interstate or overseas. Does Kester offer Skype or Phone consults?

Yes. Kester can provide consultations via Skype or Phone consultations. He is now able to prescribe herbs following a Skype consultation as well. Kester sees and supports many overseas and interstate clients in this way.
